Focus Features has unveiled the first trailer for Wes Anderson’s highly anticipated film, “The Phoenician Scheme,” set to hit theaters on May 30.
The film is described as an espionage black comedy, featuring a quirky narrative centered around Zsa-zsa Korda, portrayed by Benicio del Toro, a wealthy eccentric who has managed to cheat death six times. Mia Threapleton co-stars as Liesl, a nun and the estranged sole daughter among Zsa-zsa’s ten children. When Zsa-zsa unexpectedly names Liesl as his exclusive heir, the pair, along with tutor Bjorn, played by Michael Cera, embark on a peculiar and high-stakes adventure to realize what Zsa-zsa proclaims as his life’s most important mission.
Joining del Toro, Threapleton, and Cera in Anderson’s ensemble cast are notable names including Riz Ahmed, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Mathieu Amalric, Richard Ayoade, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, and Hope Davis.
Anderson co-writes “The Phoenician Scheme” with frequent collaborator Roman Coppola, while producing alongside Steven Rales, Jeremy Dawson, and John Peet.
