James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman” film is poised to become a major cinematic event in 2025, marking the official start of a new era for the DC Universe on the big screen. Recently, Warner Bros. co-studio heads Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca shared their enthusiasm after viewing an early cut of the highly anticipated film during an appearance on the Smartless podcast.

Mike De Luca praised the early version of the film, indicating strong confidence in Gunn’s creative vision for the rebooted DC franchise. He emphasized Gunn’s clear understanding and passion for the project, noting, “We’ve seen an early cut of Superman, and I don’t want to bury the lede. There’s a lot of marketing about to roll out ahead of its release, but [James Gunn] truly understood the assignment. His heart’s in the right place, his aim is true, and we’re genuinely excited about their fresh take on DC.”

The new “Superman” film represents a pivotal shift, laying the groundwork for DC’s ambitious future. Titled under the broader initiative, Gods & Monsters, this debut film seeks to establish a vibrant and interconnected narrative landscape. Early glimpses suggest the film will introduce numerous DC characters beyond just Superman himself, fostering curiosity about how Gunn plans to weave together multiple storylines and characters.

Despite excitement from Warner Bros., some fans remain skeptical about the shift away from previous iterations of the DC Universe. As the film approaches its release, audiences are eager to discover what this new direction entails. With a significant marketing campaign expected in the coming weeks, anticipation continues to build ahead of the film’s release.

“Superman” is scheduled to debut in theaters in two months, promising a dynamic beginning to a rejuvenated DC Universe.
