The first trailer for Wicked: For Good, the follow-up to 2024’s hit Wicked, has debuted to mixed reactions from fans, with some questioning if the trailer revealed too much.

Premiering during special re-release screenings of Wicked, the trailer showcases a darker Oz under the rule of The Wizard, portrayed by Jeff Goldblum. The tone is noticeably more restrained, suggesting a shift from the first film’s atmosphere. Fans have particularly taken note of a prominent close-up on the Cowardly Lion, fueling speculation that he is indeed the cub previously released by Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey).

However, the trailer’s reveal of a significant plot point involving Fiyero has drawn criticism. Specifically, the moment when Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), initially appearing loyal to the Wizard, visibly changes sides to protect Elphaba in the Wizard’s lair was highlighted as potentially spoiling a major twist. Fans have argued that the impact of this pivotal moment might have been stronger if saved for the film itself.

Despite these concerns, the trailer has still generated excitement, particularly through glimpses of Cynthia Erivo’s powerful rendition of “No Good Deed” and ongoing teases of the emotional anthem “For Good.”

Wicked: For Good is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 21, 2025.
