Legendary composer Hans Zimmer has offered fans an encouraging update about the highly anticipated Dune: Part Three, revealing he’s already begun composing the score ahead of filming, which is set to begin soon. Following the critical and commercial success of Denis Villeneuve’s previous films—2021’s Dune and the recent Dune: Part Two—the director is now preparing to adapt Dune Messiah, Frank Herbert’s second novel, for the third installment of the epic sci-fi series.
Zimmer revealed he began work on the musical score for Dune: Part Three as early as the second day of filming on Part Two, when Villeneuve quietly left a copy of Dune Messiah on his desk. Speaking enthusiastically about the new film, Zimmer remarked, “I know where we’re going and I know we’re not done,” suggesting rich musical exploration ahead. He hinted specifically at developing new themes that reflect Paul Atreides’ (Timothée Chalamet) deepening internal struggles and evolving destiny.
Villeneuve previously indicated that the script for Dune: Part Three was “almost finished,” with filming set to start in summer 2025. The film currently has a planned release date of December 18, 2026. Alongside Chalamet, returning cast members are expected to include Zendaya and Florence Pugh. Additionally, Robert Pattinson is reportedly in negotiations to portray the villain Scytale.
Zimmer’s proactive approach signals a promising future for Dune: Part Three, building anticipation for what fans hope will be another compelling chapter in Villeneuve’s acclaimed cinematic adaptation of Herbert’s legendary novels.
