Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has officially confirmed that a sequel to the Brad Pitt-led racing drama F1® The Movie is in development, following its massive global success.
F1® The Movie
Jerry Bruckheimer ended months of speculation at the annual Academy Awards luncheon in Los Angeles. Speaking to the BBC, the veteran producer stated plainly, “We’re working on a sequel.” He declined to provide a concrete production timeline. Bruckheimer also refrained from confirming whether Brad Pitt would reprise his role as veteran driver Sonny Hayes. However, he emphasized that Pitt would “of course” be involved in casting decisions. The confirmation follows the original film’s release in 2025, directed by Joseph Kosinski. Industry sources note the project’s momentum built despite production challenges.
The first installment starred Pitt alongside Damson Idris as hotshot rookie Joshua Pearce. It was co-produced by Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton. The film grossed over $630 million USD worldwide, marking a commercial triumph. F1® The Movie secured four Oscar nominations, including a surprise nod for Best Picture. Bruckheimer reflected on the journey, saying, “It was a long journey to get the movie made because we had to endure a couple of strikes – but in the end, the movie entertained audiences around the world.” He expressed delight at the critical recognition. The producer admitted surprise at the Academy’s acknowledgment.
Bruckheimer shared his enthusiasm for collaborating with Pitt for the first time. “I never worked with Brad Pitt before, and it’s really a thrill to work with Brad,” he told the BBC. Lewis Hamilton recently described the nominations as “so incredibly surreal.” He called it a “tremendous honour” and praised the team’s authenticity. The story centers on Sonny Hayes returning to Formula 1 to save his team alongside Pearce. Their partnership tests loyalties amid fierce competition. Bruckheimer’s update signals continued expansion for the Apple Original Films franchise. Further details on the sequel remain forthcoming.
