The highly anticipated Blade Runner 2099 television miniseries is officially scheduled to debut on Amazon Prime Video in 2026, marking the franchise’s first live-action foray into episodic storytelling. This installment serves as a continuation of the iconic Blade Runner film saga, following the 1982 original and 2017’s Blade Runner 2049.

Created by Silka Luisa, the series revisits Philip K. Dick’s seminal 1968 novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? as its narrative foundation. It will explore new storylines set decades after the events of Blade Runner 2049. The cast is led by Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh, who portrays Olwen, a Replicant confronting the imminent end of her predetermined lifespan. Additional main cast members include Hunter Schafer, Dimitri Abold, Lewis Gribben, and Katelyn Rose Downey. The production is currently in post-production after experiencing delays related to the 2023 Hollywood strikes.

Executive producer David Zucker confirmed that the release timing ultimately rests with Amazon, but the series is expected to be available sometime in 2026. According to industry sources, the show was initially targeted for a late 2025 launch but has since been postponed to next year. The exact release month or date has not been publicly disclosed. Ridley Scott remains involved in the production, continuing his long-standing connection to the franchise.

Production for Blade Runner 2099 took place partly in Prague, Czech Republic, under the auspices of Amazon MGM Studios, Alcon Entertainment, and Amazon Studios. The series will utilize Dolby Atmos sound technology and promises to expand the Blade Runner universe with rich, dystopian cyberpunk storytelling suited for contemporary streaming audiences.
